Ultraviolet tattoos
Filed in archive Lifestyle on May 6, 2006
I've been thinking about tattoos for some time now, wanting to share my opinion with you. Jim from Celebrities Weblog wrote an interesting article meanwhile, which really pushed me to state my point.
'Tattoos have regained enormous popularity among both the masses and the celebrity world. They are no longer the province of the celebrated "drunken sailor," who awoke after a night of revelry with, "Mom," sloppily carved into a bicep by a guy who moistened the needle with spit.' says Jim in a manner I've learnt to love.
So, are tattoos really becoming suitable these days? Can you walk into a job interview in a nice enough suit with a black cat tattooed on your neck? Even though we all pretend to be politically correct to the bone and not at least prejudice, I think that such a thing would take some of your professionalism away.
I was thinking of getting one in my younger days, maybe something like this, but around my ankle. Looking at it now, I'm glad I didn't, at this age I'd prefer something more private, not so visible to just about everyone.
Recently the tattoo thing got me worked up again, and then I've stumbled upon a gallery of UV tattoos. It's crazy - you have the tattoo but no one can see it, except under special light. Talk about private! But it seems to me that (as I don't often go to places which have blacklight) even if I got one, I wouldn't be able to see it often.
Anyhow, let me know what you think. If you have a tattoo, tell us about it, and the way you hide it when you need to!

Thanks fro the comment Lana. I agree with you that there's little point in getting an ultraviolet tatto. In my opinion thet's just a trend, but hey, you might never know what's comming up next.
I like people who are not afraid to show what they hold dear, so you go girl!

I have 2 tattoos, a large one down outside of my right forearm which is an ambigram of my name (reads the same both ways) and i have a read and black nautical star on the other forearm. I dont hide them at work at all, but interviews is a different story.
I love the idea of these UV tats, but as statd i also dont go to places with black lights enough so is it really worth it ?

UV tattoo ink is not commonly known or used, as very few varieties of UV inks are approved for use in the US. It is also many times more expensive than regular tattoo inks. Some people have had reactions to ingredients in the ink, ranging from minor itching to dermatitis. Several UV inks are suspected carcinogens and allergens and at this time, no research has been conducted into the possible side effects of long term exposure. Some UV inks are known to yellow or turn slightly brown with sun exposure.
