Too Much of a Good Thing

Too much of a good thing can end up to be a horribly bad thing. Too much cake, too much sun, too much snow… Well, there is such thing as too much makeup. Nobody looks good with an inch thick of plastered coverup. Not to mention, drawn on eyebrows haven't worked wonders since Cleopatra reigned. The purpose of makeup is to enhance your features; not cover them up.

So how much is too much? When it comes to foundation, it should blend seamlessly into your skin. If there is a visible line along the jaw, around the lips, and along the hairline, you are putting on too much or the wrong shade. The purpose of foundation is to even out skin tone, and provide a base for blush or bronzer to be applied. A great way to check if you have the right tone is to test it on the back of your hand or on your wrist: it should not be noticeably different than the uncovered skin.

Blush is a tricky thing to get right. The key is the good ol' "less is more" cliché. It is incredibly easy to over do it. And with too much blush, you are guaranteed a spot in the local circus. Use a large, soft brush, and lightly sweep long your cheekbone and throw an extra dab on the apple of your cheek. This should give you a healthy glow. The same goes for bronzer. Too much can make you look like an impersonator of somebody from the cast of MTV's Jersey Shore.
