Tips and tricks: Eat your way to healthy skin
Posted on 13 November 2006

My winters were always about my skin getting into really bad shape, drying out and getting flaky. The dreaded heating, layers and layers of clothing and no sun whatsoever did not help at all. But, once I got enough and did a bit of looking through virtual library books, I found out that by changing an eating habit or two I can get glowing skin – even in winter. So, if you tend to have dry body skin when the weather turns to cold, check this out:
First of all, make sure you get enough essential fatty acids. One of the easiest ways to ensure you do is to eat a tablespoon of flaxseed oil a day, or do as I do, sprinkle your favorite salads or soups with a spoonful of flax seed. Flax has very mild taste, and adds a bit of crunchiness to the salad. Once you try it you will not remember how you did without it.
Eat fruit. It is easy to forget about fruit whet there are so many cookies lying around, isn't it? But fruits provide us with so much antioxidants as well as vitamins it would be silly to avoid it. Eat red, orange, yellow and green fruits, while you're at grab a veggie or two. I always eat two to three meals a day made solely out of fruits and vegetables.
Vitamin A is of much importance, it insures that skin cells are functioning properly. If you eat animal products, you can get it from milk and eggs, if not, stick to carrots and spinach.
Drink water and make sure you have enough humidity in the air. You should drink your eight glasses of water. I usually get a big bottle of spring water, add juice of one lemon to it and drink this as I type along. It's not because I'm trying to save a Dime, I simply think flavored water is not good for me, and it does contain hidden sugars. A good idea would also be to buy an air humidifier and plug it in whenever you can.
There is also much you can do to help your skin during winter, especially with proper beauty regimes, so stay tuned!
