The Skinny Lipstick Grows Up

The Breakfast Club was on TV last night. I haven't seen that movie in years. After I first saw it as a kid, I dragged my parents to the movie theater. "This is how it really is," I remember telling them.

I thought I was making a profound statement – that they would actually understand how hard it was to be a teenager, but they just nodded and stared at me blankly.

All this came back to me as I watched the film: the teen angst, the cruelty, and, well, the fun. Seeing Molly Ringwald apply lipstick without the use of her hands (she held it in her cleavage) reminded me of the discovery of makeup. Purple eye shadow, for instance, and those skinny tubes of lipstick like the one she used. What ever happened to those?

I was relieved to find that skinny lipsticks are alive and well. Dior makes a Serum De Rouge Luminous Color Lip Treatment. Available at Sephora for $32.00 a tube, it may be a bit out of the price range for teens today, but for a Generation Xer reliving her youth, it's perfect.
