The Perfect French Twist
Posted on 31 January 2010

I'm about to introduce you to a life-saving tool that no one has ever heard of. Sound too good to be true? Probably. There is a catch (isn't there always?), but before we get to that, let's start with the tool.
It's called (now control your laughter), the Hair Screw. When I worked at Cosmopolitan Magazine a hundred years ago, a set was sent to me as a sample. The company that made mine has clearly gone out of business (you can see a picture of what mine looked like here), but I found them here as well.
What do they do? They make the French Twist the easiest hairstyle in your playbook. Just gather hair at the nape of your neck and twist in a column upward, so the hair column is pointing towards the ceiling. Curl the hair under itself, (so far, all this is de rigueur in French Twist-making). Now, instead of inserting 100 bobby pins, simply screw one screw into the top of the twist, and one into the bottom.
Your hair will not move. All day. I promise.
Oh – the catch? They are very hard to find. Except for the ones I found on Etsy, I hear they're only produced overseas, and reports online are that the shipping is very unreliable. But hey, you only need one pair to make magic!
