Storing makeup in the fridge

Putting makeup on yesterday evening, after a long, hot and very humid day, made me realize how lucky I was to have decided some years ago to keep my makeup in the fridge.

I just came out of the shower, and was still feeling too hot to do anything, let alone go out for dinner. But than I took my body moisturizer (currently I'm testing the Dove Energy Glow) from its place in my refrigerator and smeared it on - in an instant I wasn't feeling hot but really refreshed.

There you go - one of my life saving summer secrets is keeping your makeup and cosmetics in the fridge. I refrigerate all my moisturizers (body, face, eye area), toners, creams (hand, foot), foundations, lipsticks, cream eye shadows, nail polishes...you get my point. The cosmetics is cool and so pleasant to use on hot days and the makeup lasts longer and does not melt away. Simple, yet deadly effective.

I would be lying if I told you I knew of a scientific reason for keeping your cosmetics and makeup in the fridge, I do it simply for the pleasure of the cooling sensation and the mess free makeup. You can put it in a plastic container and mark it 'do not touch' to prevent other people using the fridge using your makeup instead of mayo for example, or you can get a small fridge, and stock away anything you want!

Also, other bloggers talk about storing makeup too. One of my favorite beauty blog gurus, Julyne Derrick, the about.beauty expert, writes in her new post about Ziploc Bags and how she uses them instead of cosmetic bags.

"Skip the fancy makeup bags & store makeup in freezer-size Ziploc bags, this way you can see exactly what you need & you can throw the bag out when they get dirty. The bags also protect your main bag during trips or flights, when screwtops inevitably come undone or plastic covers fall off your eyeshadow, getting makeup everywhere...inside the Ziploc." says Julyne.

What a great strategy!
