Shave your legs to perfection

Although I would be the first one to opt in for completely painless permanent unwanted hair removal, this wonderful opportunity has not yet seen the light of day.

So, I go for a wax job once and again, usually before some very important event (ex boyfriend getting married, best girlfriend getting married, grandma getting married again – khm, do you think I'm still husbandless because I subconsciously connect weddings with excruciating pain?). Well, to get back on track, I must admit to one pretty horrible thing: I don't de-hair my whole legs on regular basis. Apart from having really light hairs on my upper legs, I don't show that part of me so often that it would justify such a cruel behavior.

Instead, I shave my legs three to four times a week in the spring/summer season. It takes me about five minutes and doesn't hurt at all! How, you might ask, when every time I shave my legs I cut myself, get razor burns, nicks and develop a nasty rash? Well girls, you have to know how to do it properly.

You absolutely must meet these two conditions: a sharp razor and a shaving gel. My favorites are Gillette Sensor 3 disposable razors. I've found those overpriced women razors are too fussy to handle. Once my razor gets blunt – usually after a weeks use, I simply chuck it away. Also, don't get lured by the 'moisturizing' strips on the razors, they are completely useless. Gillette Satin shaving gel is also one of the best out there, I'm currently using the one with the Wild Berry scent.

The best way to shave your legs is to first have a shower (the warm water will soften your skin and open your pores), dry everything but legs, maybe slap on some moisturizer to your bum, arms, tummy and cleavage and than sit on the bathtub edge to do your legs.

Now, the first thing you do is to put a small amount of shaving gel on your legs and cover the whole area which you're about to shave with rich lather. The trick is to let it sink for a minute or two, so why not apply a nice peeling to your feet or remove your old nail polish? If you wait for a few minutes, the mousse will create a thin film on your skin, which will prevent all the nasties from happening.

Then you take the razor and start shaving away. Take it slowly, especially around ankles and knees. Once you're done, run your hand on your skin to feel if you missed any hairs and fix mistakes. Rinse your legs with lukewarm water.

Tap your legs dry (be gentle!) and heavily moisturize them. Don't be stingy with the cream, you can use any leftovers that are hiding at the back of your bathroom cupboard if you don't want to use too much of your new and expensive moisturizer. The best cream for heavy duty jobs is the plain Nivea.

There you go. With little practice you can become the shaving queen!

  • Nice post Ivy. And if you were wondering whether those shave minimizing lotions worked, they don’t really. Check out the following post for more info. http://thebeautybrains.blogspot.com/2006/05/beauty-q-do-shave-minimizing-lotions_15.html
