Rinsing the conditioner off

As many girls, I was under the impression for my whole hair-caring life that the longer you leave your conditioner on before rinsing your hair, the better. But Beauty Brains, myth busters for the people of the people, told us in their new post that you can rinse your conditioner right off – once you've worked it into your hair:

"In reality, once you've got the conditioner worked through your hair it works almost instantly. Letting it "soak in" longer doesn't improve the way it works. There's nothing WRONG with leaving it in longer, but if you're in a hurry you can save yourself some time in the shower by not waiting that extra 10 minutes for your conditioner to kick in."

The only important thing is to really work the conditioner well in – which is just the thing I didn't do. And, as I have long and thick hair I'm sure not every hair got coated in conditioner. Thanks to Beauty Brains I'm smarter now, as always.

But why do Hair care products producers then write so elaborate directions on their conditioners? (for example this L'Oreal conditioner?) Beauty Brains gathers that it's only for marketing purposes.
