I am writing this because I recently had a significant, however temporary, decrease in my incomings, and while I was talking to a friend about how much money I spend on hair alone, she asked: You die your hair every three weeks?
And than it hit me, artificial blondes have to touch up their roots every three weeks in order to look presentable (those dark roots look rather cheap, don't you agree?), which could easily cost $60, on top of that we have to get a full length color at least every two months, which costs even more.
But if you dye your own hair, and have hair thick as mine, you'll need two boxes of color, which comes round to $20. As blonde is a color which fades rapidly, you also need special hair conditioners, shine enhancers, glosses - which cost $$.
My brunette girlfriend, on the other hand dyes her hair only now and than, maybe every month and a half, and never has to bother with covering roots first.
The point is, think twice before you go blonde, and know that keeping up the blonde look will cost you money. If you already have a nice natural hair color you might consider semi-permanent color.

Wikipedia says, "citation needed," meaning they have nothing to back that statistic up.
