Is your antiperspirant stinking you up?
Posted on 24 June 2007

Seriously now, do you think it is possible that your antiperspirant is stinking you up? I thought antiperspirants were meant to stop the sweat, but that never happened to me. No matter what I put on my armpits, after a workout at the gym I would sweat like a little pig.
Only recently I noticed the strange smell at the same time, it wasn't that obnoxious 'never washed' sweaty smell, but rather the smell of wet wool, which wasn't pleasant either. After a lot of investigation, I discovered it was my antiperspirant's fault, and after trying a couple of other brands I realized they all make me stink.
So what now? Luckily, I have already established a friendly relationship with my dermatologist, who explained that I have a slight hyperhidrosis (which means excessive sweating), and that antiperspirants stop only up to 20 to 30% of sweat, and could, for the matter of fact, give you bad BO, especially after exercise. We decided I should start using Drysol, and Stay away from antiperspirant.
Now I'm so happy to say that no more BO follows me through the gym. I also stay clear from sweat stains on my nice work shirts, which was becoming rather a problem. Using nothing but the aforementioned medicine and a cream deodorant (I am beginning to love E. Arden Green Tea!), my armpits are revived!
