But it is the lowly hair dryer I want to bring to the fore. This oft overlooked tool is the one your mother never told you you'd need in your arsenal because let's face it: we are often running late. And when that happens, no consumer grade hair dryer will get you out the door on time.

The Solano dryer is the secret your hairdresser is keeping from you. This company has been around since 1976, and they make professional grade dryers that will dry your hair fast. And best of all, unlike consumer dryers, if they get too hot, they don't shut down. According to the company, "Our high quality AC motors are hand crafted in Italy and guaranteed to provide maximum power that lasts."

These dryers can cost a pretty penny, but after going through more than one $30 drugstore model, I learned my lesson. I've had my Solano Scirocco Plus for a few years and it's still going strong. The price has dropped since I got mine - I found one here for only $80. Of course, now Solano has a whole new technology with dryers that add shine and smooth your hair, minimizing fly-aways. Go figure. Now if it could just do the drying for me, I could have my hands free to do my makeup at the same time - now that would be something.
