I'll give my best today to help you get through all that wonderful food with as little weight gain as possible, if any.
It's never a good idea to starve yourself for a few days before a feast, you'll only eat much more than normally and your body will save it for later in, well, your hips and butt. So before the big Christmas dinner at your mother's house eat something healthy (like a bowl of cereal or fruit), and drink a big glass of water.
Once you're at the table, eat what you like, but choose lean meats, little or no gravy, don't eat bread and choose green vegetables instead of potatoes. Have a glass of vine, but no more than that, and try to avoid the eggnog.
cookies, pies and other sweet temptations make the holydays great, so pick the one you like best and have a piece. Just one, but eat it slowly and enjoy it to the fullest.
Another trick I learned, which usually gets me through such events without pigging out is wearing tight clothes. I tend to eat less if I'm in tight jeans or a dress that fits me perfectly. Sometimes vanity is our friend, you see.
If you're the one cooking, you can find great, diet aware recipes on chefs site. You can also visit wh foods site for marvelous, healthy Christmas recipes.
