Do you dare to wear ruffles?

Posted on 15 June 2006

As Glam.com reports, ruffles are in. But, as well as with stripes, one has to be extra careful when pursuing this trend, or you'll end up looking rather ridiculous. (By the way, this whole ruffle trend reminds me of the Amadeus craze back when I was a young girl.) Well, if you have a spacious J.Lo behind don't even think of putting on the skirts they suggest. And if you're gifted in the bosom department, forget about ruffles anywhere near that area, or you might frighten the innocent bystanders.

Anyhow, as it usually goes with trends on Glam, the editorial force has given its best to show you celebrities in ruffled apparel. Which is sad once you look at it, because poor style sense in 80% of shown celebrities can only make you stay away from ruffles. Just look at:

ruffled-elizabeth.jpg Hideously green monstrosity Elizabeth Banks is wearing. Dear Liza, no, it didn't make your titties look bigger, it only made you look like a favorite court fun provider.
ruffled-linda.jpg Orange horror Linda Evangelista has wrapped on. Grecian goddess is a goal to aspire, but not this way. The dress is successfully hiding the fact that this girl was/is a supermodel.
ruffled-nicole.jpg Nicole Richie has for once put on something that doesn't look like it bailed free from Paris' closet, and was again unsuccessful. She tries to look sexy, but the dress just screams – wrong! Doesn't her head look big to you?

After explaining so elaborately which ruffle styles I simply hate, I must tell you I like the image of:

ruffled-jessica.jpg Jessica Alba, who wears her ruffled shirt/jacket nicely, love the color and the pants are quite laid back. I can totally imagine wearing this to university or work.
ruffled-reese.jpg The dress Reese Witherspoon is sporting is rather sophisticated and yet cute, but black is definitely not Reese's color. She looks too pale and washed out, and for God's sake, what is it with her and pulled back hair? Didn't anyone tell her it brings her unflattering jaw out?

Now, let me tell you where you can find my favorite ruffled items: I love the Isadora Story ruffled sweater (also known as 'the secretary sweater') or this very nice and ultra feminine BCBG dress.
