But do you know what is the most important thing about jeans? They absolutely must fit you well, especially from the behind. I've never looked better than in a pair of butt-tight jeans. If you don't have a J. Lo behind, try the optical illusion of pockets with a flap on your tushy. The last thing you want are mommy-jeans, with high waist and creases forming at your behind.
Straight leg jeans will fit all types, shapes and sizes. You don't want your jean legs to be wide, so why not check out the lovely Tri Metallic Straight Leg in Manchester Wash from 7 for all mankind? The color is lovely, because you and me both know that darkest black jeans always have that special slimming effect. Sits low on the hips, tight through the knee, straight from the knee down, just as any jean is supposed to.
Stretchiness of your jeans is another factor that must not be neglected. Long are forgotten those times when we had no choice but to sit in our bathtubs with our new jeans on, waiting for it to mold perfectly to our bodies. Just ask check with the SA about stretching and don't forget to ask about shrinking after washing.
Light flare jeans are intended for those of us who wear boots all the time, or who would like to add a curve or two to their bodies. The trick with flare jeans is to buy them long enough, they must in fact be a bit too long when you're shoeless. As these are intended to wear with a heel, know that the jean must 'sit' on your boots (shoes), or it looks plain ridiculous. Also, forget the full 70s flare, it's out, even if it's in. Try Guess Anninka Jean on for size.
Skinny jeans are as tight as leggings and take decent legs to pull off. If you absolutely must have them (and I say better that than leggings), go for dark colors, no bleached out spots and no additional contrast stitching. I like the way Levi's Drainpipe make me look.
So, let's recoup: Buy preferably dark jeans, which fit you well around your bottom with slim legs from knee down. Stretch is a must for the perfect fit, think of spandex as your friend.

Thanks, this is very helpful! I just found my perfect fit. I tried MANY pairs on before I found it. Sometimes even a single style within a brand of very similar type jeans can be "the one!" My problem is relatively short legs for my height - if I find a pair that fits my waist/hips, it is likely to literally have the legs dragging on the ground. If the legs fit, the rise is too short. I finally found a happy medium, but buyers should be aware that you will most likely need to try out quite a few brands before finding the one that really does it for you, as is evident from your article. And thanks for the caution about "full flare" jeans - yes, I see that they are back, but I would not wear them; maybe three people on Earth look good in them, and I suspect they are all supermodels. :-)
