Black nail polish
Posted on 12 October 2006

Well, I have worn blue (my techno months), metallic (this summer), purple (last winter) and all shades of pink on my nails, and now it's time to once again change my view of the nail art and get some black polish. I have already spotted the Gothic pampered nails on the runways and celebrities, and the NY magazine has spread out the history of black nail polish, telling us that, in fact, black nails have been in fashion forever.
Since its first appearance in fashion last century, today the hippest black nail polish is without doubt Chanel Black Satin. NY Magazine says:
"Chanel introduces Black Satin ($18), whose limited-edition status virtually ensures the kind of waiting-list frenzy that greeted its legendary 1994 Vamp."
As the Chanel Black Satin is almost impossible to get, try your luck at eBay, but I warn you that some people are asking really too much for it.
Now, onto the black nail polish on and off strategy. As any dark colored polish, black has a tendency to stain not only your nails, but also the cuticle when you try to remove it. That's why the best thing to do is to first apply a base coat, covering the whole nail, and apply black polish as you usually would.
The trick when taking it of is to put some polish remover on the cotton round and press it gently against your nail. Leave it on for a second or two and then simply swipe it nail-wise, so you don't get black stains on the surrounding skin.
