10 things to do before that party - part I

As the party season has officially started, I thought of putting together a little check up of the most essential things a gal has to do to look absolutely fabulous for that out of this world Christmas or new Year's party. This is also applicable when going to a wedding, or any other special occasion.

1. Pedicure – even if you're going to wear closed toe shoes, boots or stilettos, you really do need a proper pedicure. It's essential, so that you don't tear those $30 golden pantyhose before even stepping out of the house. Here's a DIY pedicure tutorial if you don't have the time or the money to see a specialist. You can do your pedicure a week in advance.

2. Facial – go to a salon to get all that pimples, blackheads, blemishes, dry skin and other nuisances a part of history. Be warned that if you get a salon facial you need to do it at least three days before the event, because your face is obviously going to be rather red and a bit irritated too. You can do a pretty good home facial if you don't have zit problems, check my tutorial about it.

3. Manicure – you can get this done the day before, or even on the same day. This is also a precaution, because manicures are sadly, one of the least lasting beauty improvements. Don't have the cash? Try this step-by-step DIY manicure. Remember to decide on clothing before, so that you don't end up with a golden gown and silver nails. Oh, black polish is in right now.

4. Eyebrows – there's nothing worse than a lady in a perfect dress, with perfect makeup and the worst eyebrows possible. If you never did your brows, leave it to the specialist. If you are determined to do it yourself, check out this post of mine first. Do your tweezing and plucking at least the day before, otherwise you might be looking for some green concealer to hide up the redness.

5. Hair removal – get rid of all the unwanted hair, on your legs, armpits, the upper lip :) Of course, you needn't wax your legs if you are wearing pants, but it's good to stay on the safe side in case you decide to wear a dress after all. If you're waxing or threading, you can do it a week in advance.
