Is New Beauty Ad Racist?

Some people are questioning whether a new beauty ad from for their new VisibleCare body wash is racist. The ad promises users "visibly more beautiful skin." It's unfortunate that this wording is referring to a product that is meant to lighten the skin significantly in just one week.

The ad features close-up pictures of skin taken before and after using the new wash. It shows three women, one black, one Latina and one white, standing next to each other, and visually communicates that if you have dark skin before you use VisibleCare, you'll have pale skin afterward, not to mention be thinner and have blonde hair. It is hard to decide whether the ad is more upsetting because of it's racist undertones, or because of the fact that none of the people who approved the ad thought there was anything wrong with it.
